Myers-Briggs: How to Rejuvenate Over Spring Break

Most of you are probably already looking forward to Spring Break for obvious reasons. By this point, you’re already well into the semester, and it can be hard to last through all the way 'til Finals Week. What better time to take some time off?

Of course, if you’re anything like us, you might be tempted to spend that time watching Netflix. Nothing wrong with that either.

Myers-Briggs may not be the same as zodiac, but it can still be fun! Let’s look at some ways your personality type can benefit from the week off.

So, here are our suggestions on what to do during Spring Break. And if you don’t like our suggestion, use it as a jumping off point! Anything you can do to relax for the break is a good thing...after all, you’ll need all the energy you can get to prepare for the rest of the semester.

PS: If you don’t know your type, check out some of our articles about finding it!

Artisans (xSxP):

Artisans love nothing more than new experiences and sensory exploration. Change things up during Spring Break! Do whatever you can to break the routine.

ISTP - Go on a road trip. Although you might be tempted to stay indoors the whole break, a change of scenery will do you wonders. So hop in the car and drive somewhere else, even if it’s only an hour away! And if you don’t drive, why not try taking a walk and seeing where it takes you? Just remember: it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

ESTP - Host a get-together. You probably already planned to see friends this break, but hosting will force you think of something new and creative for everyone to do--and that’s just what you’re good at. Planning might not come as naturally, but what’s wrong with challenging yourself?

ISFP - Pick up a new hobby. Although you might not be the kind of person who wants to hit the road or try rock-climbing, why not see if there’s a hobby you’ve overlooked? Spend a day at the library just looking through the different sections, or see what Stillwater has to offer.

ESFP - Be a tourist. You might have already bought the plane tickets. If not, why not be a tourist in Stillwater? Go to all the places that are horribly crowded when everyone’s in town--or be a tour guide and show your friends around as if they’d never been before!

Rationals (xNTx):

Rationals can be cerebral and focused. Instead of spending the whole break working, why not use that time to pursue your other interests?

INTJ - Find a new interest (or rekindle an old one!). You’re a hard worker with a strong sense of responsibility, but when was the last time you read a book for fun? Try getting into something that has nothing to do with your studies.

ENTJ - Stay with a friend. You’re a natural networker who’s always “on.” But even you need a break sometimes. Maximize your productivity by putting distance between yourself and your work.

INTP - Keep active. It can be easy to read internet articles all day, but more stimulation will help keep your mind sharp. Jogging or even yoga are good ways to keep from getting burned out.

ENTP - Unplug. Natural debater that you are, you may be tempted to get in Twitter wars or internet arguments all break. Well, stop it! Try to spend as many days off social media as you can.

Idealists (xNFx):

Idealists can be very hard workers when their hearts are involved. But everyone needs a break sometime! Use your break to attend to areas of your life that you’ve been neglecting.

INFJ - Get in touch with your artistic side. The more time you spend away from your inner world, the worse you feel. Try doing something artistic--whether that’s painting, poetry, sculpting, or even just doodling in an old notebook.

ENFJ - Play match-maker. No, not like that--with friends. Why not introduce two of your friends to each other, or host a giant get-together that includes people you talk to in class, or people from your hometown?

INFP - Try journaling/letter-writing. You have a tendency of bottling your feelings until it’s too late. Spring Break is the perfect time to process everything that’s been going on with you this month. Even if you aren’t a natural writer, it can be good to have a place where you can articulate your complicated thoughts and feelings.

ENFP - Connect with nature. You have a tendency of getting socially involved. Like, reallyinvolved. Take a break from things and see how much better you feel.

Guardians (xSxJ):

Guardians, as a whole, tend to work well with others. Maybe a little too well--they tend to spend so much time thinking about others that they forget to relax. Pamper yourself this break!

ISTJ - Do something spontaneous. This is very, very not-you. Which is all the more reason to do it! Even if that spontaneity means you end up planning it four days in advance, see if you can try something you’ve never done before. It doesn’t have to be something huge, either. Why not try a new ice cream flavor, or treat yourself to a new book?

ESTJ - Make a playlist. If you aren’t sure what to do this break, perhaps you should start by getting in touch with your spiritual side. You may not be the most in touch with your emotions, but it’s not too late to start.

ISFJ - Give yourself the spa treatment. You spend so much time focused on other people that it’s almost scary. Spend a day focused entirely on yourself: your favorite foods, a hot bath, whatever. You almost never splurge on yourself, so here’s your pass.

ESFJ - Take yourself on a date. Like ISFJ, you’re very focused on others. Unlike ISFJ, staying inside all day is liable to make you feel worse, not better. So treat yourself to something more social. Maybe you can buy that coffee drink you never get, or go dancing. You don’t need other people to have a good time!
